Liberty Ships were the first mass produced cargo vessels of World War II. These were the first welded ships in the
world, cutting labor costs in half. 2,751 Liberty ships were
built between 1941 and 1945.

VICTORY SHIPS
Victory Ships were the second generation of mass produced cargo ships in WWII. They were faster and more economical than the Liberty ships built earlier in the war. There were 534 Victory ships built for the war. There were three basic types, VC2-S-AP2, VC2-S-AP3, and VC2-S-AP5. The AP2 and AP3 were mixed crews of Navy and Merchant Marine, the AP5’s had total Navy crews. The AP3’s had a complement of 52 Merchant Marine and 23 Navy for a total of 75. The AP5’s had a complement of 536 and carried 1,561 troops
